I usually put key coordinates into the GPS to help in navigation, but on this occasion I didn’t bother as I thought it would be easy to visually spot the location of The Lectern and Pulpit Rock. However, it was misty and although starting out in the correct direction I made a turn on seeing higher ground and didn’t realize that I was now going the wrong way. Not having the location in the GPS was proving to be a mistake. Even when the getting visual confirmation of our surrounds it was still hard to reorientate myself.
Soon after arriving at the summit of Mount Connection the mist moved away and increasingly we were in sunshine, including lunchtime at Pulpit Rock. Gradually the day became warmer which was particularly noticeable on the slog back up the firetrail.
