Basin Hills

Tuesday 17 September 2024

The departure was from the PWS access in Risdon Vale and both the start and finish was through country ruined by rubbish, such remains of cars and stumps from recent intrusions of wood hookers. The climb to the top of Basin hills was on a vehicle track, but once up there it was mostly fairly level with just a few undulations. About a kilometre along there was a visit to small cliff line and from there with the country became nicer and much less tracked, A short 60 metres in height climb to the high point of the walk, where the surrounding area was prominent with Grasstrees. Beyond it was downhill to a delightful wide sandstone slab section kept naturally open by very shallow soil and this is where some wildflowers were seen. From there a final descent took us to the valley floor and the return along rutted tracks to Risdon Vale and the cars.

It was a 9.3k walk using one calculation method but 10k according to the GPS and took 4¾ hours.
