Government Hills East Risdon Reserve
Tuesday 11 August 2026
This walk passes through the council owned reserve to Shag Bay, where PWS have rerouted the track to make access easier. During this initial section we had a look at a cement wall on the shore and went along the track named takara limuna (Sheoak Walk). Beyond there when we got to the hilltop beyond Shag Bay then descended to a small bay where a tent was discovered and other equipment, now abandoned and quite unsightly.
Next came Tommys Bight and along the coastal track to Porter Bay. The 150m ascent from there through the Risdon gums was steep, bringing us to the tops of Government Hills before the final section over Fisher Hill.
All up it took a total time of 4h 26m with a walking time of 3h 9m once breaks were taken out for the 8.5k
More information on takara limuna is here and also on the history of Shag Bay.
