Compton Falls
Tuesday 14 January 2025
Had information from waterfalls of Tas website, but Murray had obtained different route information, which proved to be accurate. We headed along a wide cleared track until Falls Rivulet could be clearly heard where we left the tack and descended through the forest, bringing us to it some 350 metres (straight line) downstream of Compton Falls. There were a couple of blue tapes noticed during the descent, so others had been this way. After about 15 minutes we came across cut steps in a log and from this point onwards it was a clear track with more steps and in a little under another 15 minutes arrived at the falls. The inward journey was 1.8k and took 1:20.
Compton Falls were quite good with one side coming over a wide terrace whist the eastern side was over a narrow chute with a bigger drop the to bed of the rivulet.
We followed the inward route back to that first cut step, crossed the rivulet on a large log and as expected there was a track back to the meet the old wide track. This way was just 1.2k and only 36 minutes.
