Boronia Moor

 Tuesday 25 March 2025

For me the main attraction on Boronia Moor is a huge ancient snowgum occupying a spot on the northern corner of the moor. Boronia Moor at Mount Field is a rarely visited area and feels that way even though it is not far away from the main attractions in the high country.

It was reached from Kangaroo Moor with a 45 minute scramble through the bush to the nice moorland. The snowgum (Eucalyptus coccifera) was only a short distance away and we went to it, finding it still in good condition. After lunch there, Boronia Moor was crossed to the southern side and we continued on in that direction. Two smaller moors were traversed before reaching the high point and a descent to the low point of Wombat Moor. On the way down an area of healthy king bill pines was a highlight. We came upon ponds and more pines at the foot of the hill and on crossing towards the road, Alan sunk into a hidden trench of water and soon after I stepped into one.

Given the time of day, the easiest way back to the car was by the road, rather than attempt a lakeside walk.

It took 1:45 to walk the 3.5k to Boronia Moor, whereas the return leg was 2:25 for 4.1k.
